Victim identified in fatal Darlington County fire
Darlington County Fire District responded to a fatal fire on Cashua Ferry Road in the Mechanicville Community Thursday, March 16.
Upon arrival, firefighters were made aware there was a resident still inside the home. Firefighters had the fire under control in about two hours.
Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee identified the victim as James David Blackmon, 61. Mr. Blackmon was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Darlington County Fire District, Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, and the State Law Enforcement Division.
Darlington County Fire District would like to remind you to check your smoke alarms, have an exit plan for your family, and give heaters a three-foot minimum zone surrounding them. This is the 33rd fire death in the State of South Carolina in 2017.
