Valerie Bryant

LAMAR — Valerie Teal Bell Bryant, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021. A graveside service was held in Lamar Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 6. The family greeted friends following the service and other times at 5320 Lamar Highway. Born in Darlington County on Feb. 4, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Jimmy Teal and Alice Windham Teal Grooms. She worked for American Can as an inspector, and retired after working there for 36 years. She was lovingly known as “Val” and was a kind and caring mother and grandmother. Mrs. Bryant was a sports enthusiast and loved watching football and baseball. Val was a member of Will of Faith Southern Methodist Church. Surviving are her sons, E.B. (Tip) Bell, Myrtis (Fran) Knotts, all of Lamar, her grandchildren Shannon (Shawn) Duncan, Ryan (Heather) Bell, Kevin (Kacey) Bell, Timmy Watford Vickie (Eddie) Joye, Dawn (Steve) Katko, great-grandchildren, Mary Ryan Bell, Matthew Bell, Kaleigh Bell, Rob Joye, Tim (Crystal) Watford, Lee Joye, Sam Watford and Tom Katko, and a great-great grandchild, Ava. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janice Bell Stephens, sisters, Bobbie Jean Brown and Ercel Bryant. The family thanks Heritage Home, especially Shannon and Jaleesa, for their love and caring for Val.
