Suspect shoots himself, deputies say
When Darlington County sheriff’s deputies tried to arrest a man Friday, he shot himself, officials said.
The unnamed suspect was hospitalized; his condition was not immediately known.
The incident happened at a Freeman Street residence Friday morning, according to the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office. In a statement, the Sheriff’s Office said deputies were there to arrest the man on a charge of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in Marion County.
The Sheriff’s Office said the suspect “shot himself with a handgun out of view of the deputies.”
