Stepson held in woman’s death

The Darlington Police Department has charged a Darlington woman’s stepson in her May 17 death, Chief Kelvin Washington said May 21. Vivian Bess’ death had been treated as “suspicious” from the beginning, and her stepson, Steven L. Samuel, 33, now has been charged in the case, the chief said. Jail records state he has been charged with murder, kidnapping and assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct, first degree. Washington declined to release any further details at this time.
