Spring Beauty Garden Club offers Hartsville residents a new Yard of the Month award
Hartsville has a new designation to enjoy: Yard of the Month.
The city’s Spring Beauty Garden Club came up with the idea, which was brought to them by a new member, Betsy Kraus.
She told The Hartsville Messenger that during this chaotic time of pandemics and politics, it would be a good idea to do something that would make people smile.
Dewayne Gibson’s yard, on Fifth Street in Hartsville, was first to claim the award.
“He was very gracious and seemed happy to receive the award,” Kraus told the Messenger. Right now, his yard is heavily Halloween-themed.
The Spring Beauty Garden Club plans to choose a new yard every month for the award, with recommendations coming from club members and residents.
The club meets the first Wednesday of every month, except for frigid January.
The club is now celebrating its 66th year in 2020, the Messenger reported.
Co-presidents of the club for 2020-2021 are Susie Guerry and Gay Morrison. Other officers include vice president and assistant Kathy Dunlap and Pam Tyner; co-second vice presidents, Elizabeth Hall and Jamie Dyce; recording secretary and assistant, Rhonda Coker and Beth Matthews; corresponding secretary and assistant, Frances Hupfer and Ginger Maning; treasurer and assistant, Paula Davis and Jane Wheeler; and projects coordinator and assistant, Pam Chapman and Kraus, according to the newspaper.
