The Friends of the Society Hill Library presented the first Murder Mystery Dinner Theater on Saturday, February 27 – a fun event that felt like a large family game of to the board game “Clue” as audience members acted out the mystery of the murder of the late Baroness Arabella Rummun. A delicious spaghetti meal and baked goods were provided by the Friends.
“The Friends of the Society Hill Library’s dinner theater was successful far beyond our expectations,” said Jimmie Epling, Director of the Darlington County Library System. “It was fantastic to see so many from the community turn out to support the Friends and the Society Hill Branch. What made the night so special is that all those who attended became a part of the play. There are some really talented people in Society Hill who just might have a future in acting.”
Epling was part of the play, portraying the attorney hired to sort out the mystery.
“The Friends, Charlene, the staff, and volunteers did a wonderful job in pulling it all together. The eighty or so of all ages in attendance got into the play and enjoyed the evening. We want those who visit the Library to enjoy their visits. We want it to be an experience. The Friends, staff, and performers made last Saturday night at Library a really unique experience for Society Hill and the Library.”
“We all had a perfectly splendid time,” said Ms. Gail Gandy, board member. “I was sitting with, among others, Dr. Chip Helms, who donated the property for that library and made sure it was designed by an excellent architect in order to blend in with Society Hill’s aesthetic age. That was the best gathering of ‘Society Hillians’ for a great cause in my memory. There’s some real talent in my little village!”
The event was the brainchild of Charlene McDonnough, Society Hill Library Branch Manager. “We had such a great turnout and it was a really fun night,” she said. “It was so much fun hearing all the laughter and watching everyone enjoying their evening. We had so many talented people that really got into their parts and just made the evening one to remember. The Friends of Society Hill Library are already planning another event soon- details will come at a later date.”
