SLED charges former Darlington County Deputy Sheriff with Misconduct in Office, Embezzlement of Public Funds












The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged William Kenneth Sumner, 63, with Misconduct in Office and three counts of Embezzlement of Public Funds — Value Less Than $10,000 on Monday, August 24, 2026. The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office requested the SLED investigation.
Sumner was booked into the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center in Darlington County. The case will be prosecuted by the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
