Sixty-seven apply for city manager’s job

Sixty-seven people have applied to replace Howard Garland as Darlington’s city manager, officials said. After an executive session during City Council’s regular May 4 meeting, council voted unanimously to allow the Municipal Association of South Carolina (MASC) to narrow the field of applicants for city manager. MASC staff members will bring the top 10 candidates to council, which will begin the interview process May 24. Garland, who had been city manager for 11 years, parted ways with the city March 30, after council voted not to renew his contract. It was described as a mutual decision that it was time for both Garland and the city to move on.
