Shooting reports briefly put two schools on hold

Two Hartsville-area schools were briefly put on hold June 10 after reports of shots fired nearby, according to the Darlington County School District. The DCSD said there were reports of a shooting incident in the county near Calvary Road. In an abundance of caution, the DCSD said, Bay Road Elementary School and Hartsville Middle School made the decision to keep students inside the building until given the all-clear. The school was not placed on lockdown. Classes continued as usual and everyone was safe, the district said. The hold lasted a short time.
