Sammy Nance

DARLINGTON — Samuel “Sammy” Angus Nance, 84, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, April 9, 2021. The family received friends Sunday, April 11, 2021. A funeral service was held on Monday, April 12, 2021, at Temple Free Will Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Born in the Mont Clare community of Darlington on May 7, 1936, he was the son of the late Val B. Nance Sr. and Ruby Elizabeth Hewitt. Sammy served his country in the Air Force, retiring in 1996 as a Master Sergeant. He also retired from Sonoco after working there for 35 years. Mr. Nance was a devout Christian and faithful member of Temple Free Will Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities. He is survived by his wife, Jane Dease Nance, a daughter, Kathy Nance Nephew, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and his sister, Priscilla (Rufus) Cribb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Rodney “Bear” Dease, and siblings Angellee Funderburk, Val Nance Jr., Polly Ann Stokes and Robert “Robbie” Nance.
