Rosenwald Alumni Foundation

The Rosenwald Alumni Foundation awarded $7,000.00 in scholarships to fourteen (14) local college-bound students. This number surpasses the previous high of eight (8) scholarships awarded in one year. To be eligible, an applicant must be a descendant of a former Rosenwald student or attended Rosenwald Elementary Middle School in Society Hill, SC. The successful candidate must also reside in Darlington County; graduated from a high school in the county; and enrolled in the first semester Freshman year of an accredited college or university.

The 2023 recipients are listed with the name of their high school, the institution they will attend, and the name(s) of the former Rosenwald student(s) of whom they are a descendant.

Krateshia Brown, Darlington High, Florence-Darlington Technical College, daughter of Craig Brown (class of 1985) and Terry Perkins Brown (class of 1985), granddaughter of Arthurine Lincoln Perkins (class of 1967) and Moses Perkins (class of 1968).

Chelsea Ford, Hartsville High, Florence-Darlington Technical College, granddaughter of Annette Tedder Ford (class of 1976), great granddaughter of Mary Jane Wilson Tedder (class of 1954).

Aliyonna Godfrey, Hartsville High, South Carolina State University, granddaughter of Charles Tucker (class of 1979), great granddaughter of Nettie Hunter Tucker Gantt (class of 1958), and Doretha Jackson Bush (class of 1963).

Adrionna Graham, Darlington High, attended Rosenwald Elementary Middle School, Benedict College, granddaughter of Bernard Zimmerman (class of 1980).

Brittany Johnson, Darlington High, The Citadel, daughter of Jacqulin Bush Johnson (attended Rosenwald Elementary School), granddaughter of Franklin Bush (class of 1964) and Margaret Beaty Bush (class of 1964).

Jabarie Johnson, Darlington High, Bethune Cookman University, son of Jacqulin Bush Johnson (attended Rosenwald Elementary School), granddaughter of Franklin Bush (class of 1964) and Margaret Beaty Bush (class of 1964).

Kierra Martin, Darlington High, University of South Carolina – Union, granddaughter of Bessie Gattison Sowell (class of 1973).

Milaysia McGee, Darlington High, attended Rosenwald Elementary Middle School, Francis Marion University, daughter of Sebrina Tillman Cabbagestalk (attended Rosenwald Elementary), granddaughter of Edell James Tillman (class of 1961).

Annie McMurray, Darlington High, Claflin University, granddaughter of Reatha Williamson Bynam (Class of 1971).

James Adam Melton, Darlington High, The Citadel, grandson of Edward George (class of 1976).

Riheim Scott, Mayo High School for Math Science and Technology, attended Rosenwald Elementary Middle School, Wingate University, grandson of Leila Dundy McFarland (class of 1970).

Neely Tedder, Darlington High, attended Rosenwald Elementary Middle School, Horry-Georgetown Technical College, granddaughter of Loretta Tedder Bridges (class of 1978), great granddaughter of Mary Jane Wilson Tedder (class of 1954).

Steven Williams, Mayo High School for Math Science and Technology, attended Rosenwald Elementary Middle School, Greensboro College, son of Freda Graham Williams (attended Rosenwald Elementary School), grandson of Fred Graham (class of 1963) and Louvenia Moses Graham (class of 1965).

Charles Wesley Wright, Trinity Collegiate High School, University of South Carolina -Beaufort, son of Linda Robinson Wright (class of 1983).
