Rock named “Woman of the Year”
Darlington Professional Women named Lisa Chalian-Rock their “Woman of the Year” during an April 15 luncheon at the Darlington Country Club.
DPW’s retiring president (and former Woman of the Year) Shawn Johnson praised Chalian-Rock’s hard work as Darlington city planner and director of Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association. During the past year, Chalian-Rock has enhanced existing events like the Market on the Square, brought in new attractions like live gospel concerts, and shepherded a variety of civic improvement projects (sidewalk replacements, cleanup days, tree replacements) that benefit the whole city.
“All the stuff that I do is for the community, but I can’t do it by myself,” said Chalian-Rock, offering thanks to everyone who steps up to help through public service.
DPW also elected new officers at this meeting, voting Chalian-Rock as president, vice president Karen Belissary, secretary Amanda Boykin, and treasurer Meredith Townsend.
Attending the presentation (and pictured here from left to right) were several of Chalian-Rock’s colleagues from the City of Darlington: Henry Chapman, Darlene Jackson, Howard Garland, Lisa Chalian-Rock, Mayor Tony Watkins, DPW’s Shawn Johnson, Lacey Weatherford, and Cheryl DuBose.
