Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association (DDRA) recognized Southeastern Grain Company last week with the Pride of Darlington business award for the extensive rehabilitation work done at their 213 East Broad Street site.

Manager Franklin Whaley said that prior to opening, the company worked for nearly a year to stabilize aged brick, replace broken windows, install new flooring, roofing, and light fixtures, and shape up storage bins to get the site ready for operation. Now Darlington’s Southeastern Grain Company (SGC) site evaluates and purchases wheat, soybeans, and corn for major livestock feed buyers like Smithfield Foods. Whaley says SGC can accommodate onsite storage of 650,000 bushels in climate and moisture controlled bins, and they are anticipating a bumper crop of corn to pass through their facility this year.
