The Darlington Police Department hosted a Day at the Park on Friday, June 26 at Carraway Park, located at 100 Magnolia Street. Free hot dogs, chips, and Kona Ice treats were available, courtesy of the police department.

“We wanted to do an outreach to the community, especially in light of everything going on across the country and internationally,” said Chief Kelvin Washington, City of Darlington Public Safety Director. “Here in Darlington, we have a really solid relationship with our community, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to make it better.”

Capt. Kim Nelson added that the event would help promote literacy by providing summer reading material donated by the Darlington County School District. Kids chose from a variety of reading and coloring books, and were provided with a set of crayons.
