One killed, one injured in Darlington shooting

The Darlington Police Department and the county Coroner’s Office were investigating a May 18 shooting in Darlington that left one person dead and another wounded. Rahiem Jaquan Fortune, 24, of Darlington, died after a late-afternoon gun battle between people riding in two cars, said Coroner Todd Hardee. The Darlington Police Department said the shootout took place around West Broad and Milling streets. Fortune’s vehicle wound up in a parking lot off Washington Street, near Washington Square Apartments, officials said. The wounded person’s condition was not known. The State Law Enforcement Division was assisting in the investigation. Hardee emphasized that the incident didn’t take place at Washington Square Apartments, as some early reports had indicated. “The car the person was shot in simply pulled into the parking (lot) and the driver died.”
