Once-imprisoned pastor speaks at Darlington church
Darlington Presbyterian Church on Jan. 10 hosted an American pastor who spent two years in Turkish prisons after being accused of spying and aiding terrorists. Andrew Brunson and his wife Norine visited the church at 311 Pearl St. and spoke during Sunday school services. The Brunsons were involved with starting churches, training, helping refugees and a house of prayer in Turkey for decades until authorities accused them – falsely, the Brunsons said – of terrorism in 2016. Andrew Brunson was held in Turkish prisons for two years until a Turkish court ordered him released. News media said President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence personally raised his case several times with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey.
