MPD Trust donates $5,000, employees help seniors

Employees of MPD rolled up their sleeves today to support the Senior Citizens Association of Florence County, packing food for the organization’s Meals on Wheels program and serving lunch to seniors in person. MPD also presented the association with a $5,000 donation from the MPD Trust.

The event was part of the MPD Employees’ “Powering Our Communities” initiative and was hosted by the Marketing and Member Service departments. Volunteers spent the morning preparing meals for homebound seniors in the community, then stayed to serve lunch and visit with those who gathered at the association.

“Community involvement is at the heart of who we are. Our employees live and work alongside the people we serve, so it’s a privilege to show up for them in ways that go beyond the meter,” said Matt Haynie, Chief Marketing Officer, MPD.

“We prepare 100 meals a day, five days a week, for Meals on Wheels, and serve lunch at our center twice a week.

Having MPD volunteers join us today and the support of the MPD Trust means more than we can say,” said Shirley Eastling, Senior Citizens Association of Florence County.

The MPD Trust donation will help the Senior Citizens Association continue its work providing meals, services, and companionship to older adults throughout Florence County. Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious meals to seniors who are unable to prepare food for themselves, and it often provides a friendly face and a welcome check-in for those who live alone.
