Miller named DCSD director of personnel

Chuck Miller has been appointed the Darlington County School District’s new director of personnel.
Miller, who is currently the district’s director of Adult Education, is replacing C. Matthew Ferguson and will transition to his new role April 1. Ferguson recently became executive director of the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee.
Education Superintendent Tim Newman described Miller as an excellent fit for the position.
As director of personnel, Miller will develop and manage screening, recruitment, retention, and employment evaluation practices. He will assist in all facets of the district’s Human Resources domain.
Miller said he looks forward to serving the Darlington County community in a new and exciting role.
“I am thrilled to have this opportunity to work more closely with the employees of the Darlington County School District,” he said. “It’s been one of the great honors of my professional career working with the Adult Education teachers and staff while seeing the success of our students. Our district offers tremendous opportunities for our students, and it is also an extremely rewarding place to work.”
Miller began his education career in the Darlington County School District as a substitute teacher in 1996. Two years later he became a fourth grade teacher at St. John’s Elementary School, where he served until 2007.
Miller also spent time as an assistant football coach at Darlington High School. In 2005, he began working as a part-time instructor for the district’s Adult Education program.
In 2008, the district named Miller the facilitator of special programs for Darlington County Adult Education. There he served various roles, including GED instructor for the Under 18 Program, a Computer Skills instructor and the coordinator for the South Carolina Virtual School Program.
In 2012, the Darlington County Board of Education named Miller the director of Darlington-Lee Adult Education. Since, he has served as an adjunct professor at the College of Charleston and the district’s Interim Pupil Personnel Supervisor.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Francis Marion University and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina.
A Darlington County native, Miller is a deacon at Welsh Neck Baptist Church in Society Hill. He also serves as the chairman of the board for Rubicon Family Counseling Services, and he is a Pee Dee Workforce Development board member. Additionally, he is secretary and treasurer of the South Carolina Association of Adult Education Directors.
