Margie Watford Truett

LAMAR — Margie Watford Truett, age 89, left this Earth peacefully on Friday, Aug. 6, 2021. Born on Dec. 5, 1931, Margie was the daughter of the late Macie Amerson and Luther Watford. Born in Lamar, Margie worked at Dixie Cup (now James River) in production and quality control for 40 years, retiring in 1996. She loved spending time with family, baking and decorating cakes, working in her flowers, and feeding and watching her birds. Margie also loved to travel and took many trips and made lots of memories with Christian Tours. Margie was a founding member of Christian Pathway Fellowship Church and a dedicated follower of Christ. She was committed to a life of service to her church, her family, and her community. No one who knew or visited with Margie ever left with an empty stomach or empty heart. She loved everyone she met – and witnessed to all through both word and action. In recent years Margie loved attending productions at Narroway Christian Theater with her son and daughter-in-law, often singing and praising throughout the shows and inspiring all those around her. Her light shone brightly in this world, and there is no doubt she was welcomed through the gates of Heaven and into the presence of Jesus. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Hilton Truett, daughter Marilyn Evans, sister Jackie Jones and brother Jerry Watford. She is survived by her son, Terry (Rebecca) Truett; brother-in-law Fred “Cotton” Evans, grandchildren Hunter Truett, Delaney Provow, Kaci (Everette) Watford and Fred “Dusty” (Carly) Evans; great-grandchildren Lillie Katherine, Marilyn Elizabeth, and Brayzel Hilton; sister, Carolyn (Bobby) Gibbs and brother Richard (Mary) Watford, and numerous nieces and nephews she cherished and loved deeply. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of The Carolinian Assisted Living where Margie lived for the last five months and often referred to as “Heaven on Earth” and to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at McLeod Hospice House. A funeral service was held Monday, Aug. 9, at Christian Pathway Church with burial following at Lamar Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Belk Funeral Home in Lamar. Memorials in memory of Margie may be made to Christian Pathway Fellowship Church in Lamar, The Carolinian Assisted Living in Florence, or to Narroway Christian Theater in Rock Hill. A guestbook is available online at www.belkfuneralhome.com.
