Man wounded on Darlington street

From staff reports

An early-morning shooting Feb. 5 on a Darlington street sent a man to the hospital, officials said. The man was shot on East Broad Street and taken to an area hospital. His condition was not known. Darlington Police Chief Kelvin Washington could not immediately be reached for details on the case; no arrest had been announced by press time Monday. The shooting was one of several incidents last week that kept firefighters, Darlington County sheriff’s deputies and Hartsville city police busy. The incidents included: — “A big fight” that broke out Feb. 1 at a Hartsville store, which resulted in a “chaotic scene” as officers jailed four people, officials said. — On Feb. 2, a Darlington County man in the Byrdtown area was badly burned when the camper he lived in caught fire, apparently started by a space heater. — Also on Feb. 2, authorities arrested a Hartsville man accused of nine charges related to the sexual exploitation of minors. The office of S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson is prosecuting the case against Brandon Joel Ivy, 35. — And on Feb. 3, a slaying outside Hartsville Jan. 28 turned into a double-murder investigation as a second person, wounded in the incident, died. Details on all these cases are included in this week’s edition of the News & Press.
