Local athletes receive scholarships from McLeod Sports Medicine

McLeod Sports Medicine has awarded the Geoffrey Kier Memorial Athletic Excellence Scholarships to three local athletes. The scholarship recipients were recognized at the annual McLeod Sports Medicine 5K and 10K Run/Walk held Saturday, March 19, 2016. The athletes receiving the scholarships are: Chris Vincent van Baaren, Anna Shurman, and Madison Hardee.

Chris Vincent van Baaren is a senior at The King’s Academy where he participates in basketball and soccer. He plans to attend The University of South Carolina and major in International Business. Chris is the son of Hans and Rosalyn van Baaren.

Anna Shurman is a senior at West Florence High School where she is a member of the cheerleading and track teams. She plans to attend Clemson University and major in Biochemistry. Anna is the daughter of June and John Shurman.

Madison N. Hardee is a senior at Pee Dee Academy. She is a member of the tennis and soccer teams. She plans to attend The University of South Carolina Aiken and major in Sociology. Madison is the daughter of Tracie Michelle Hardee.

Sponsored by McLeod Sports Medicine, the Geoffrey Kier Memorial Athletic Excellence Scholarship recognizes student athletes who personify excellence. The athletes chosen exhibit excellence in academics, athletics, and also possess strong leadership skills. The scholarships are awarded annually to college-bound high school seniors. The athletes are selected from participating area public and private high schools.
