Lawrence “Bee” Gandy, age 73, died Monday, September 27, 2021 in a local hospital. A funeral service was held at 3:00 on Thursday, September 30 in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors, followed in Black Creek Cemetery. The family received friends from 5:00 until 7:00 on Wednesday at the funeral home. Born in Darlington on October 6, 1947, he was the son of the late Voight Quinby Gandy and Mae Rhodes Gandy. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Bee then worked for NUCOR, Dixie Cup, Galey and Lord and International Knife and Saw, but supported his family primarily by being an insurance agent. Mr. Gandy was an outdoorsman; enjoying fishing, hunting and having a fondness for animals. Bee liked to watch racing on Sundays, visit with his friends, and enjoyed being around kids and taking them hunting. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Davis Gandy, his children, Lex (Brook) Gandy, Jeni (Jimmy) Johnson, Emily (Bobby) Colvin, grandchildren; Haley McNamara, Jordan Gandy, Jamison Gandy, Alex (Taylor) Shoemake, Miranda (Brandon) Shoemake, Ashley Colvin; a step-son, Ricky Moody, two sisters, Mary Elizabeth (Del) Cantrell of Columbia, Virgie Stanton of NC and his canine companion, “BB”. He was preceded in death by brothers, Voight, Arthur, Robert, Charlie “Bubba” Gandy, and his step-daughter, Tammie Moody McNamara.
