Students at Darlington’s Brunson-Dargan Elementary School got a special visit on Thursday morning from NASCAR driver Kyle Larson, who piloted the #42 Target Chevy to his first Sprint Cup victory just one week earlier at Michigan International Speedway.
Hoping for a great showing at the Bojangles’ Southern 500 on Labor Day weekend, Larson’s high spirits were infectious and the kids welcomed him with cheers and high-fives.
During a Q & A session, the 9 and 10 year-olds peppered Larson with inquiries about his favorite drivers (Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart, for the record), his best racing community friends off the track (Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.), and how he got started racing (competitive go-karting at age seven).
Larson autographed and donated 50 book bags and lauded his team sponsor – Target – for their generosity and support.
