John William Ryder III

DARLINGTON — John William Ryder III, 79, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at his home in Darlington. He was a much beloved father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. John was born in East Orange, N.J., and grew up in Boonton, N.J. He joined the Navy as a medical corpsman and traveled the world. He proudly served 20 years and retired to Virginia Beach, Va., where he got his nursing degree. He later moved to Darlington, where he lived the rest of his life. John was predeceased by his sister, Connie, and his wives, Carol, Barbara and Betty. He is survived by his children Beth Schmidt (Brian), John Ryder IV (Christan), and Noel Ryder, and stepchildren Sonya Springs, Eddie Zapata, Angela Zapata, Margaret Zapata, Olga Zapata Reed and Donna Zapata Harris. Also, grandchildren, nieces and a host of friends. A celebration of his life was held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Friday, April 23, 2021. Flowers and donations may be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church at PO Box 16, Darlington, SC 29540. Services have been entrusted to Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington.
