Hartsville Police seek Butler Academy teacher
Gilbert Burgess.
The Hartsville Police Department has issued an arrest warrant for Gilbert Burgess, a teacher at Butler Academy, based on allegations of inappropriate contact with a minor. The minor was not a student at Butler Academy.
The initial incident happened at the Hartsville Memorial Library on March 30, 2024. The victim was being tutored outside of school hours by the suspect. Due to the sensitive and ongoing nature of the investigation, we cannot release further details at this time.
