Hartsville man charged in deadly Dec. 13 crash

A Hartsville man has been charged with felony DUI in a Dec. 13 pickup-truck crash in Darlington County that killed one passenger. Jacob Stone Beasley, 23, of 804 Colony Road, Hartsville, was booked into the Darlington County jail on Dec. 29 on a charge of felony DUI resulting in death, jail records show. He apparently posted bond and was released the same day. Killed in the 1:50 a.m. crash was Chapman William Fountain, 24, a passenger in the truck. Two other passengers and the driver were injured. The S.C. Highway Patrol has been investigating the case. Officials said a truck overturned on Oates Highway near Weaver Street in the Timmonsville area. Fountain, according to his obituary at Norton Funeral Home, lived in Georgetown and worked for Nucor Steel in Berkeley. He was buried in Lamar Cemetery. — Bobby Bryant
