Hartsville-area man holds family hostage

From Staff Reports

A Hartsville-area man was arrested Sept. 22 after holding his wife and child hostage, officials said.
The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, suffered “minor injuries” and was being treated at a local hospital, according to the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident started about 9:40 p.m. last Tuesday at a home on Nicholson Road near Hartsville. At first it was reported as “a possible shooting incident” and then became a hostage situation.
The Sheriff’s Office responded with patrol deputies and its Special Incident Response Team; the Hartsville Police Department also responded. Officials said the man eventually released his wife and child.
About 11 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office said, its Special Response Team used “less than lethal munitions” – which can include rubber bullets, “beanbag” rounds or “flash-bang” grenades – to subdue the suspect and arrest him.
Except for the suspect, no injuries were reported, officials said.
