Former HHS employee arrested

On Tuesday, August 8, 2023, officers with the Hartsville Police Department arrested a Hartsville High School employee in regard to “allegations he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a student,” according to the Darlington County School District (DCSD) Communications Director Audrey Childers.
Matthew Abongo Obonyo is charged with criminal sexual conduct.
Childers said the district is cooperating fully with the law enforcement investigation.
The district said the employee, who officials identified as Obonyo, is no longer an employee.
Childers said the “safety of our students is our highest priority.”
