FDTC expands Healthcare Training

Florence-Darlington Tech (FDTC) is expanding its healthcare workforce training opportunities with a new Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification training program through its Corporate and Workforce Development Division. The first class is scheduled to begin in January 2027, providing students with a pathway to enter the growing healthcare field.

The program is designed for individuals seeking to begin a healthcare career without committing to a multi-year degree program. Through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory experience and a supervised clinical externship, students will develop the skills needed to pursue entry-level clinical medical assistant positions.

Clinical medical assistants play an essential role in delivering quality patient care. Working alongside physicians and other healthcare professionals, they perform duties such as taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, assisting with clinical procedures and helping patients feel comfortable during medical visits.

Graduates may pursue employment in a variety of healthcare settings, including physician offices, family medicine practices, urgent care centers, outpatient clinics and specialty practices such as cardiology, dermatology, orthopedics and pediatrics.

Upon completing the training program, students will be prepared to sit for a nationally recognized CCMA certification examination, subject to the certifying agency’s eligibility requirements.

The need for qualified healthcare professionals continues to create opportunities for individuals interested in entering the field. According to JobsEQ, the median annual salary for medical assistants in South Carolina is $43,300

Through programs like CCMA training, FDTC’s Corporate and Workforce Development Division helps connect individuals with practical training opportunities that support career advancement while addressing the workforce needs of the region.
