Fatal crash reported in Darlington County

A single-vehicle accident in Darlington County claimed the life of a Hartsville man Sunday night, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol officials.

The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Indian Branch Road near Galloway Town Road, approximately six miles south of Hartsville. Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway reported that a 2007 Toyota sedan traveling southbound veered off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned.

Nathaniel Rodgers, 75, of Hartsville, was pronounced dead at the scene by Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee. The driver sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Darlington County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Rodgers’ family and friends during this difficult time.
