The Darlington County School District continues to arm itself against the COVID-19 virus as schools prepare for a Sept. 8 reopening, the school board was told last week.
Face masks for every student. Plexiglas shields to protect employees working at the front desk of schools. And a huge amount of hand sanitizer.
“Every class will have a gallon of hand sanitizer,” Larry Johnson, assistant superintendent of operations and maintenance for the district, told the board Aug. 10.
“What we’re doing at this point is holding all the equipment until we get it all, and then we’ll have a pickup and delivery site for every school,” Johnson said. “ … I think 23,000 masks were delivered last week … and still more to come.”
County Education Superintendent Tim Newman has said that the district will have four reusable cloth masks for each of the district’s roughly 10,000 students.
