Deputy Bryant retires after 25 years

After a quarter-century spent protecting the communities of the Pee Dee region, Lieutenant Curtis Bryant is hanging up his badge. The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office announced his retirement this week, capping a career that spanned five agencies and a wide range of leadership roles.
Bryant’s journey in law enforcement began in 2001 as a Patrol Deputy with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office. Over the following two decades, he expanded his expertise and leadership across multiple departments — serving as a K-9 Handler and Lieutenant with the Society Hill Police Department, rising through the ranks as Corporal, Sergeant, and Patrol Lieutenant back in Darlington County, and later serving as a Shift Sergeant with the Hartsville Police Department. He also spent time as a Patrol Deputy with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office before returning home to Darlington County in 2021, where he served as Captain and, most recently, Patrol Lieutenant.
Colleagues describe his career as a model of steady, principled leadership. Throughout his many roles, Bryant became known for his professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to public safety — qualities that shaped not only the departments he served but also the officers who worked alongside him.
“Lieutenant Bryant’s leadership, experience, and mentorship have made a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of serving alongside him,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Sheriff August and the entire Darlington County Sheriff’s Office extended their gratitude to Bryant for his 25 years of faithful service, calling on the community to join them in celebrating his retirement.
