Darlington NAACP elects new officers

The Darlington Branch of the NAACP recently held an election to determine new officers. They are: Johnny Holmes, president, and Rev. Anthony Hooks, first vice president. The secretary is Sheila Baccus. Treasurer is Liz Samuel and Retha Ross is the new assistant treasurer. These officers ran unopposed for their positions. Additional elective offices remain open and will be filled by special election. The new officers will begin their terms in January and will serve for two years. Founded in 1909 in response to the ongoing violence against black people around the country, the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) is the largest and most pre-eminent civil rights organization in the nation.
