Darlington celebrates Veterans Day

Citizens gathered on the Darlington Public Square at 11 a.m. Monday to celebrate Veterans Day and pay homage to all the servicemen and -women who fight to keep our nation free. Members of each branch of the armed forces, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard were acknowledged and thanked for their service. Staged by American Legion Post 13, the event featured guest speaker Capt. Ian Rohde, USAF, who shared his thoughts about the ongoing importance of military service. Rohde noted that living in a free country is a gift repeatedly paid for with sacrifice and bloodshed. He said that his daughter, like generations of Americans past, has announced her intention to serve in the armed forces. “I stand with pride and hope that she might one day ensure the next generation will have the opportunity to repay that and do the same,” said Rohde.
