Chester and Letha Martin of Jordan Street have been awarded the Residential Pride of Darlington Award for the substantial work they have done in their yard. Planting flowers and trees has been a part of the Martins’ family legacy, as Letha pointed out trees and roses her father, uncle and other family members planted in her yard. The Martins laid every brick on their front patio and beds by hand themselves, installed multiple fishponds, and dotted the landscape with containers full of flowers. Some containers are special, reminders of family matriarchs now gone but not forgotten. The City of Darlington Beautification Board presents the Pride of Darlington Award and solicits nominations from the public for residential property and for businesses. The business award nominees can include the interior of businesses and other non-residential property other than churches. All nominees should be within the city limits. You may submit nominations to the Board via e-mail to the Darlington Planner at rock@cityofdarlington.com or by calling (843) 398-4000 x 103. Please include the address and name of owner, if known.
