Coker dean takes part in prestigious Miami ballet event

Angela Gallo, dean of Coker University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts, recently spent the part of the summer in Miami, serving as master faculty at the Joffrey Ballet Summer Intensive. The Joffrey Miami Ballet Intensive is “designed to hone in on technique through intense individual attention.” The program is taught by “former and current stars in the ballet world,” and dancers are provided an opportunity each day to ask career questions of these professionals. Gallo was one of those stars, serving as one of four master faculty to work under Joffrey Artistic Director Jo Matos. Matos serves as artistic director for the Joffrey Ballet School’s Children’s Dance and Youth Ballet Programs and Summer Intensives in New York and Miami. The Coker University dean also spent part of the summer working with the Columbia City Ballet Dancers, choreographing a work and performing part of a piece that Gallo created. In addition to her work at Coker, Gallow also serves as artistic director of Sapphire Moon Dance Company. She previously directed the Coker Repertory Dance Company and was SE Regional Director of American College Dance Association.
