Church Spotlight

The First Church of God (FCOG), 620 N. Main Street, in Darlington, is a cornerstone of the community and has a rich history dating back to its inception in 1917. Its journey began in the Free Will Baptist Church, which served as its first main building. However, in 1965, the congregation embarked on a monumental project to construct the present-day church, a project that culminated in its full completion in 1973.

One of FCOG’s outstanding contributions to the community is the creation of Community Connections, which initiated the Soup Kitchen in collaboration with 12 other local churches, thanks to the tireless efforts of Lindsey Byrd. They are also dedicated supporters of the Darlington Free Medical Clinic and The Lord Cares organizations, embodying their commitment to helping those in need.

This church is more than just a place of worship; it’s a vibrant hub of activity. Their youth program is thriving, and their men’s and women’s groups are actively engaged in various community endeavors. What sets FCOG apart is their “family feel,” a warm and welcoming atmosphere that embraces all visitors with open arms.

Looking to the future, FCOG has ambitious plans. They’re gearing up to launch Trail Life, a boys’ group akin to the Cub Scouts/Boy Scouts, offering exciting outdoor activities. Additionally, they’re establishing a ministry tailored for college-age and young adults.

At the core of their faith and mission is Hebrews 12:1-2, which encourages believers to cast aside the burdens and sins of the world, placing their trust in God. First Church of God in Darlington stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith and community in the pursuit of a better world.

Plan to stop by and visit them for worship services at 620 N. Main Street, Darlington or call them at 843-393-7942 for more information.
