Society Hill Police Chief Michael August has resigned, and the town has named town police Lt. Renae Worden as interim chief, Mayor Tommy Bradshaw said. August, who was among the candidates for Darlington County sheriff in 2020, resigned effective Dec. 28, Bradshaw said. August is retiring from law enforcement, the mayor said. Worden is the first woman to serve as Society Hill police chief, even in an interim capacity, said Bradshaw, who is leaving office in January when Mayor-Elect Dwayne Duke is sworn in. — Bobby Bryant
