Like many other youth-oriented summer activities, the tradition of vacation Bible school has been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. While some churches like Darlington’s First Baptist Church have opted to cancel VBS entirely (with the possibility of a one-day event in the fall), others are trying to adapt to the current restrictions. Central Baptist Church of Darlington plans to hold a socially-distanced VBS at the end of July where groups are spread among various campus buildings. Central also staged a drive-up awards ceremony last week for children who participated in the AWANA discipleship program. Those who completed the program received trophies, certificates, books, and treats to mark their achievements.
