Darlington County primaries set for June 14
Just as local voters put one local political race to bed, several others are on the horizon, and the Darlington County Office of Elections and Registrations has begun preparing for the Democratic and Republican Primaries scheduled for June 14.
County establishes fund for Economic Development
Darlington County Council has moved to establish a dedicated funding source to help the county’s Economic Development Partnership bring new business and industry to our area.
Historical quilt represents local mystery
A quilt recently donated to the Darlington County Historical Commission has raised questions and inspired the curiosity of staffers. The quilt itself is lovely, with squares of bright red and faded green arranged in a geometric pattern, but this item – dating to perhaps 1920 or 1930 – features dozens of names embroidered onto the face.
Vandalized grave marker recovered
Another incident of vandalism has damaged a grave marker at the historic Lowther’s Hill Cemetery, located off Cashua Ferry Road in Darlington County.
Accommodations Tax Committee makes funding recs
The Darlington County Accommodations Tax Committee met on Monday, March 28 and Thursday March 31 to decide on funding recommendations for the 2016/17 fiscal year. The committee is responsible for dispersing a $60,000 funding pool to applicants whose venues and events increase local tourism and overnight hotel stays.
