Carolina Pines announces Nurse of the Quarter and DAISY Award winner
Brandon Singletary, RN of the Emergency Department at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center was named the Nurse of the Quarter and the DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence. The awards are chosen from nominations from hospital staff, patients and family members that wish to recognize exceptional nurses each quarter.
Brandon Singletary, RN in the Emergency Department is the winner of the Nurse of the Quarter and DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence for Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center.
According to Frank H. Munn, Director of Emergency Services at CPRMC, the awards were well deserved.
“Brandon is an exceptional nurse that has earned the respect and admiration of his peers, subordinates and the medical staff through his dedication and many years of high quality patient care. He invests in his team as their Patient Care Supervisor and grows them by modeling quality compassionate care in a supportive and encouraging manner. He is a true leader within the Emergency Department.”
Brandon has been working in healthcare for 18 years, since the former Byerly Hospital days where he began as a unit clerk. He later moved to the ICU, and has been with the ER since Carolina Pines opened the doors in 1999. His inspiration for going into the medical field began when he was just a small child.
“When I was very young my GrandDad had a lot of bad bouts of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and spent many nights in the hospital. I stayed and helped take care of him,” recalled Brandon. “I was real close to my GrandDaddy, we always picked and cut up and everything… so it was tough on me. When I saw how the nurses cared for him, well, I just respected everything they did. I always knew that was what I wanted to do.”
Now as an adult, Brandon still feels the choice he made as a child was the right one.
“I enjoy the small atmosphere and that we have all been working together for years – and being able to help the community,” he said. “And, I enjoy the closeness of everybody here – the physicians, the staff, we know each other well. We are great team, all on the same page. It works well for us.”
What is The DAISY Award?
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33, from complications of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP). During his eight-week hospital stay, his family was impressed by the care and compassion his nurses provided, not only to him but to everyone in the family. They created the DAISY Award in Pat’s memory to recognize those nurses who make a big difference in the lives of so many people.
