Big Give Pee Dee

Big Give Pee Dee
Six area nonprofits are asking you to get behind them during a one-day, region-wide fundraiser called Big Give Pee Dee. Presented by Eastern Carolina Community Foundation, the event is happening on May 5th in conjunction with a national fundraiser called Give Local America. Donations made here stay here to benefit local charities and help them continue to help the communities they serve.

Participants from Darlington County are:
• Carolina Kids
• Darlington County Education Foundation
• Darlington County First Steps
• Darlington County Humane Society-Rescue
• House of Refuge – Refuge Outreach Ministry
• South Carolina African American Heritage Foundation
• The Lord Cares
• Trinity Byrnes Collegiate School

During a 24-hour cycle – from midnight to 11:59 p.m. – on Tuesday, May 5th, the public can go to www.biggivepeedee.org and make secure donations to the participating charities of their choice. To further amplify donations, monetary prizes will be awarded to nonprofits meeting certain benchmarks, such as “most early morning donors” and “largest single donation.” At random, donors will be selected to designate a nonprofit to receive additional monetary prizes.

The public can track the progress of participants on the event website throughout the day. Minimum donation is set at just $25, which means most anyone can be a philanthropist for a day, said Sarah Shelley, executive director of Eastern Carolina Community Foundation, which supports the nonprofit sector in the Pee Dee.

“This is the time of year when our hard-working local nonprofits are typically forgotten,” she said. “The Big Give is a simple way to remind the public that the needs of their communities are year-round. Your donation will give a much-needed boost to programs that enrich lives and make your community a better place to live.”
