Benefit to raise funds for Mechanicsville man

A Jan. 23 benefit will raise funds for a Mechanicsville man struggling with health problems.
Gerard Poole, 34, is suffering from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Stage 4, his friends say.
He has completed six rounds of chemotherapy and is on monthly medications that are “very expensive.”
He is unable to return to work at Anderson and Keefe Investments and has filed for disability. His wife, Alexandria, continues to work at her job, but has to care for him.
Their income has been sharply reduced and medical bills are increasing.
Cooks for Christ is raising funds to help the family with these expenses.
A chicken bog benefit Jan. 23 at the West Florence Fire Station on Pine Needles Road in Florence is aimed at raising funds to help him.
Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and dinner will be served from 4-7 p.m. Drive-through lanes will be open and a bake sale will be held all day. Plates are $8 each. Lunch and dinner can be delivered for orders of seven or more plates.
To donate, please make checks payable to “Gerard Poole Medical Fund.” For more information, call Alexandria Poole at 843-687-4577, Geraldine Poole at 843-687-8410, Jean Tyner at 843-917-8623 or Beverly McKee at 843-229-0348.
