Bench dedicated in honor of late Carolyn Abbott

Family members of the late Carolyn Abbott joined the Darlington Garden Club Friday, Dec. 6, to dedicate a bench on the Public Square in her honor.

Linda Beckham, Garden Club president, described Abbott as “the consummate member” who held many offices, had many talents, and “always pushed us to a higher level.”

“To say that she was a hard act to follow is an understatement,” said Beckham, noting that the bench is but one small way to honor Carolyn’s memory.

A more lasting tribute, she said, would be for the club to build on the foundation Abbott laid and keep working to make her beloved Darlington a more attractive and nicer place to live.

“I think that would be a memorial she would truly love,” said Beckham.

Joining members of the Darlington Garden Club at the dedication were Carolyn’s husband of 49 years, Bill, and their daughters Katherine and Krista.
