A 24-year-old man was killed and three people injured after a traffic accident on Oates Highway near Timmonsville early Sunday, officials said. Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee identified the victim as William Chapman Fountain. The S.C. Highway Patrol said he was a passenger in the vehicle. The patrol initially said a Ford pickup truck ran off the highway about 1:50 a.m. Sunday and overturned, killing one and sending three to an area hospital. Hardee referred to the accident as a collision at the intersection of Oates Highway and Old Spur Road. Hardee pronounced Fountain dead at the scene about 3 a.m. The case remained under investigation by the Coroner’s Office and the patrol. — Bobby Bryant
