Selma Louise Cole Miller

Selma Louise Cole Miller died peacefully in Darlington, SC on May 2, 2017 at the age of 95, surrounded by her family.

Selma is survived by her 4 children, Constant Hubert Miller III and partner Mary Baker of Darlington, SC, David Talbot Miller and his wife Nancy Ann Miller of Florence, SC, Frances Elaine Cooley and her husband Thomas Joseph Cooley of Westminster, MA, and Samuel Allen Miller and his wife Debra Ann Miller of Flowermound, Texas, 9 Grandchildren and 6 Great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Constant Hubert Miller, Jr. (Connie).

Selma was born on July 10, 1921 in Turbeville, SC to David Emerson Cole and Susan Virginia Burgess Cole. She attended Florence Business School in Florence, SC, where she played on the basketball team, and graduated with a degree in business. She met her husband Connie while working at Miller’s M System in Florence, and continued to support the family business for over 50 years.

She was active in the Kalmia Garden Club for many years, and was also a member of the Dancing Grannies in Darlington.

She was a charter member of Central Baptist Church on Spring St. in Darlington, and a member of the Grace Sunday School Class.

A wake was held Friday, May 5th from 6 – 8 p.m. at Kistler-Hardee Funeral home at 315 Pearl St. in Darlington. On Sat, May 6th, a viewing was held at 2 p.m., followed by a funeral at the chapel at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Burial followed at Grove Hill Cemetery in Darlington. In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to Central Baptist Church, 512 Spring St. in Darlington. The family sends its’ thanks to Agape Hospice staff for their continued support and loving care during Selma’s last year.

Dorothy W. Pruitt

Dorothy Weatherford Pruitt, known as “Grandma Dot” to her family, age 82, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017. A graveside service was held 11a.m. Friday, May 5th in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 3 p.m. Saturday at the home, 368 W. Broad Street, Darlington.

Born June 21, 1934, Dorothy is the daughter of the late Samuel Benjamin Weatherford and the late Martha Isadora Drew Weatherford. She was a graduate of St. John’s High School and Anderson College. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed cross-stitching, planting her flowers, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her five children, Cynthia Pruitt, Debbie McCaskill, Scott (Dianne) Pruitt, all of Darlington, Karen Pruitt of Greensboro, and Martha Herrington of Anderson; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; her brother, Homer (Barbara) Weatherford; her sister, Phila Weaver, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald C. Weatherford, and Samuel Benjamin Weatherford; her sister, Virginia Isagett; her granddaughter, Kelly Spring Pruitt Williams; and her niece, Rhonda Williams.

Jackie McKnight

Jacquelyn “Jackie” Elizabeth Johnson McKnight, age 74, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017. A graveside service was held 4p.m. Friday May 5th at Clyde Church of God Cemetery in Hartsville, directed by Belk Funeral Home. Family and friends were invited to the home of Gil and Dee Dee McKnight, 503 Bayside Rd, Hartsville, SC 29550, following the service.

Born May 4, 1942, Jackie is the daughter of the late Mortimon Johnson and Ruby Hall Johnson. She worked in the Voters Registration Office, the Magistrates Office, and then retired with Blue Cross Blue Shield. She loved fishing, watching TV, and talking on the phone with her family and friends. She grew up attending Clyde Church of God in Hartsville.

Surviving are her sons, Gil (Dee Dee) McKnight of Hartsville, and Tony (Tammy) McKnight of Darlington; her grandchildren, Michael McKnight, Jr., and Lindsey Blair (Drew) McElveen; her great-grandchildren, “Lil Mike-Mike”, J.J., and Wyatt. Also surviving is a close family friend, Steve Graves who was like a son; her special friends, Nikki Warr and Rudy Branham, and her dear friend and former husband, Wesley McKnight.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Johnny McKnight, and her brother, Tommy Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday, May 4th at Belk Funeral Home.
