Trinity Collegiate Titans defeat Lake View to win championship

In the second year of the girls’ division, the SCISA 4 A Trinity Collegiate Lady Titans in their debut to the tournament defeated the returning champion SCHSL 1 A Lake View Lady Wild Gators 55-36 for the championship in the 36th Annual Pepsi Carolina Classic presented by South Carolina Federal Credit played at Wilson High School in Florence to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee.
The game was called with 54.8 seconds remaining due to a brief disturbance in the stands.
Although Lake View controlled the opening tip-off, Trinity Collegiate controlled the pace of the game.
The Lady Titans hit the basketball court with a hot-shooting touch to take a good lead but the Lady Wild Gators fought back and cut the lead to 4 points, 14-10, after the first period of play.
In this fast-paced, physical game where there were many times players scrambled on the floor to retrieve the loose basketball, there were 6 fouls called against Trinity Collegiate in the first period and 4 fouls called against Lake View.
By halftime, the Lady Titans enjoyed an 11-point lead, 30-19 over the Lady Wild Gators.
In the second period of play, each team was charged with 3 fouls.
After 3 periods of play, Trinity Collegiate was up by 15 points, 43-28.
In the second half of play, the Lady Titans committed 6 fouls, and the Lady Wild Gators committed only 3 fouls.
Trinity Collegiate’s A’Zaria Knox lead all scorers with 23 points. She connected with seven 2-point baskets, two 3-point baskets, and 3 foul shots. Kenzie Feagin added 7 points with a 3-point basket, a 2-point basket, and a free throw. T. Williamson placed 7 points onto the scoreboard with a 3-point basket and 4 free throws in 4 attempts. Yasherae Teasley had two 3-point baskets for 6 points. S. Kind added three 2-point baskets for 6 points. A. Kind had two 2-point baskets for 4 points. K. Pierce connected for a 2-point basket.
Lake View’s Jaleya Ford led the Lady Wild Gators with 13 points. She sank four 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket, and 2 free throws. Lakayla Chavis had two 2-point baskets and 3 free throws for 7 points. Sa’Nyah Williams had two 3-point baskets and a free throw for 7 points. Gwendasia Page added 6 free throws for 6 points. Zy’Kiara Waters had a 3-point basket.
Trinity Collegiate is led by first-year coach Niki Teasley, and Lake View is led by Coach Bill Inman.
Lake View will host West Columbus at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5.
Trinity Collegiate will travel to Wilson Hall of Sumter on Friday, January 6.
