The Lord Cares receives donations from the Turtles

Lord Cares Donation Turtle Ladies

The Lord Cares food bank received a much needed donation last week from members of the D.C. Mastermind Snappers, Darlington chapter of the Worldwide Fraternity of Turtles.

Pictured here with one of the carts of donated goods are Turtles Veronica “Verotica” McNeil and Anna “Brown Sugar” Brown, Marilyn Akers, Dianne James, Betty Gail Gandy, and Earl Glass of The Lord Cares, and Turtle VP Elaine “Dazzling Diva” Reed. This isn’t the first time the Turtles organization has stepped up to help, and members say it won’t be the last. During the early October flooding, they provided clean drinking water for stranded residents, and future projects include a “Feed a Family” effort that will provide a Thanksgiving meal for a local needy family. To learn more about the D.C. Mastermind Snappers, contact vice president Elaine Reed at 843-307- 7086.

The Lord Cares food bank is located at 201 Grove Street in Darlington. They are open Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Donations of non-perishable food items (especially canned meats) are needed, as are toiletries, bathroom tissue, and paper towels. They are currently also low on pasta, spaghetti sauce, beans, grits, green peas, soup, and canned greens.
