The Brad Knox era got off to a good start this past Tuesday, November 29, as the Darlington Lady Falcons girls’ basketball team defeated the Lamar Lady Silver Foxes 45-26.
Darlington, who has the luxury of having three six footers down in the post saw two take control of the second half.

Having only a seven point lead at the half, Darlington began to work the post hard, with LaDaysha Bonaparte, one of the three six footers, scoring four of her eight points in the third quarter. Her other four points came on free throws in the fourth quarter.

“At halftime I told them we got to pick it up,” Knox said. “We can’t play down to another team’s level”

Bonaparte was not the only six footer for Darlington to have success in the second half, however. As her offensive prowess began to push the Lady Falcons lead larger, Hope Richardson’s strong fourth quarter sealed the deal.

Richardson finished with eight points on the night just like Bonaparte as the two led Darlington in scoring. As Bonaparte scored four in the third and two in the fourth, Richardson scored two in the third and six in the fourth.

Darlington really stretched its lead out of Lamar’s grasp near the end of the third quarter and midway through the fourth when the Lady Falcons went on a 19-3 run.
“Outside of that fourth quarter we came out and played hard,” Lamar girls head coach Randolph Scott said after the game. “Once we got behind we got out of character trying to catch up. I take my hat off to Darlington; they did a good job.”

The Lady Falcons started the game off shooting and missing a lot of three-point attempts.

“A lot of teams are going to zone us because we have such an inside presence,” Knox said on why the team took so many long range shots. “We just have to be able to knock outside shots down.”

Knox now hopes to take this game and teach his team a valuable lesson for the upcoming season.

“We have to be able to share the ball more,” Knox said. “I think when we move the ball we’ll have some good things happen for us.”
