Ten vehicles burn in car-repair shop blaze

Ten vehicles – most of them kept on site only for spare parts – were destroyed Feb. 24 when a fire erupted at a car-repair shop in the Lydia area of Darlington County.
The blaze at Danny’s Auto Repair on Indian Branch Road started about 2:15 p.m., said Darlington County Fire District Chief Ricky Flowers. He said trash was being burned in a barrel and the fire got out of hand.
He said 10 vehicles were destroyed, but said most of them were only kept at the business for spare parts. No injuries were reported, and the fire did not damage the main building at the repair shop.
Flowers said the blaze produced “a ton of smoke. I could see it from outside Darlington. … For the first 30 minutes, it was pretty intense.” He said it took firefighters about two hours to knock out the blaze.
